Privacy Policy

Welcome to Palan. Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines how your personal information is collected, used, and managed when you use the Palan mobile application (the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

A. Personal Data You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address or an authentication token from third-party services (like Google or Apple) to create and secure your account.
  • User-Generated Content (UGC): We collect the text-based content you voluntarily upload to the Service (e.g., from .txt files, .srt files, photos via OCR, or pasted text).

B. Automatically Collected Data

  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, such as quiz performance, features used, and crash reports.
  • Device Data: We may collect basic device information (e.g., device model, operating system) and device identifiers (like your IP address or Advertising ID).

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used for the following specific purposes:

  • To Provide the Service: We use your Account Information to manage your account. We use your UGC to provide the core feature of the Service: generating vocabulary quizzes.
  • To Improve the Service: We analyze Usage and Device Data to understand how users interact with Palan, to fix bugs, and to develop new features.
  • To Show Advertisements: We use your Device Data (like your Advertising ID) to display personalized ads, which supports the free version of our app and allows you to unlock features by watching ads.
  • To Process Subscriptions: We use your account information to manage your subscription status.
  • To Communicate With You: We may use your email address to send you important service-related notices or to respond to support requests.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share your information with the following trusted third-party service providers ("Sub-processors") who perform services on our behalf. These providers are obligated not to disclose or use your information for any other purpose.

  • AI Service Provider (Google LLC):
    • Purpose: To generate vocabulary quizzes, we send the UGC you upload to Google's AI (Gemini) API for processing. We do not permit Google to use this data to train their models.

  • Backend & Analytics (Google Firebase):
    • Purpose: We use Firebase for our backend infrastructure, database, analytics, and crash reporting. This helps us store your data, authenticate you, and monitor app stability.

  • Advertising Partner (Google AdMob):
    • Purpose: We use Google AdMob to serve ads in our app. AdMob may collect and use data like your device's advertising ID and IP address to show you personalized ads.

  • Subscription Management (RevenueCat, Inc.):
    • Purpose: We use RevenueCat to manage and verify your subscription status across platforms. RevenueCat handles your subscription receipts but does not process your payment details.

  • Authentication Providers (Google LLC, Apple Inc.):

    • Purpose: All payments are processed directly by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not collect or store your credit card or payment information.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Storage: Your data (Account Information, UGC, and generated quizzes) is stored on secure servers, such as Firebase, operated by Google.
  • Security: We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
  • Retention: We retain your Personal Data as long as your account is active. We retain your UGC for as long as it is needed to provide you with access to your generated quizzes. You can delete your UGC or your entire account at any time. Anonymous, aggregated Usage Data may be retained indefinitely for analytics.

5. Your Data Protection Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your location, you have certain rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
  • Right to Rectification: You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You have the right to request that we erase your personal data. The easiest way to do this is by using our in-app account deletion feature.
  • Right to Opt-Out (Ads): You can opt-out of personalized advertising through your device's settings ("Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS or "Opt-out of Ads Personalization" on Android).
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You have the right to withdraw your consent to our processing of your data at any time.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from a child without parental consent, we take steps to remove that information.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Palan mobile application (the "Service") provided by Illia Vlasov ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. User Accounts

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activities that occur under it. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating your account.

2. Service Model, Subscriptions, and Payments

Freemium Model: The Service is offered on a freemium basis. You may use the core features for free, subject to limitations on the number of content uploads or quiz generations. To exceed these free limits, you may have the option to either (a) watch a video advertisement (where available) to earn additional usage, or (b) purchase a recurring paid subscription ("Subscription") for unlimited access.

Subscriptions

  • Billing: Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (e.g., monthly or yearly). Your Subscription will automatically renew under the same conditions unless you cancel it or we cancel it.
  • Payment: All payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store ("App Stores") via our subscription management provider, RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment information. You must abide by the terms and conditions of the App Stores.
  • Cancellations: You must cancel your Subscription through the App Store, as we do not have the ability to manage your subscription or issue refunds directly.

3. User-Generated Content (UGC)

Our Service allows you to upload text-based content ("UGC") to generate vocabulary quizzes.

  • Your Responsibility: You are solely responsible for the UGC you upload. You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to upload your UGC and to grant us the license to use it as described in these Terms.
  • Prohibited Content: You agree not to upload any UGC that is illegal, defamatory, infringing on any third party's rights (including copyright, trademark, or privacy), or otherwise objectionable.

4. License You Grant to Us

By uploading UGC to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, process, store, and transmit your UGC *solely* for the purpose of:

  1. Providing the Service to you (i.e., generating your quiz).
  2. Sending your UGC to a third-party AI service as a sub-processor (as described in Section 5).
  3. Storing your UGC and generated quizzes on our servers for your personal access.

This license is only for the purpose of operating and providing the Service to you. This license terminates when you delete your UGC or your account.

5. Third-Party AI Service Processing

To provide the quiz-generation feature, we send your UGC to a third-party AI service (a "Sub-processor," e.g., Google's Gemini API). By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree that we may transmit your UGC to this Sub-processor for this specific purpose. We have contractual agreements in place that restrict the Sub-processor from using your UGC for any other purpose (such as training AI models) or sharing it with others.

6. Copyright Policy (DMCA)

We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect our users to do the same. We will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA").

If you are a copyright owner and believe that any content on our Service infringes your copyrights, you may submit a notification to our Designated Copyright Agent with the following information:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
  • Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate it.
  • Your contact information (address, phone number, email).
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

We reserve the right to remove UGC alleged to be infringing without prior notice and at our sole discretion. We will also terminate the accounts of users determined to be repeat infringers.

7. Termination

You can terminate these Terms at any time by deleting your account through the app (see our Account Deletion instructions) and ceasing to use the Service.

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that quizzes generated will be 100% accurate.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event shall we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any and all claims shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the past six (6) months for the Service.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by other means. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

How to Delete Your Account

You can request the deletion of your account and all associated data at any time directly from within the Palan app. Following these steps will permanently delete your account, your personal information (like your email address), and all User-Generated Content you have uploaded.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. From the main Home screen, tap on your Profile icon in the top-right corner.
  2. On your Profile screen, tap the three-dots menu icon (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select "Delete account" from the menu that appears.
  4. You will be asked to confirm your decision. Please note that this action is irreversible.

Once confirmed, your account and all related data will be permanently erased from our systems in accordance with our data retention policy.
